I started watching EPL back in 1998 which is why i supported Manchester United till now. That was the best year for them when they won treble including the FA Cup, Premier League and of course the Champions League. They had plenty of good players back then which is totally different compare to existing squad. The only players who featured back then who is still in the squad is Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
The players i liked the most were Peter Schmeichel, Jaap Stam, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke who all was in the first team squad.
After many years under the coach of Sir Alex Ferguson, he continues to dominate the Premier League with his experience of changing his way of playing using different type of players.
He replaced Peter Schmeichel with Fabian Barthez and lately Van Der Sar.
For Defender, he replaced Dennis Irwin with Gabriel Heinze and lately Patrice Evra who is a more attacking minded left back. Jaap Stam and Gary Pallister with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Gary Neville with Rafael who is still lack of experience with age of only 21.
Whereas for Midfielder, David Beckham who is specialized in dead ball situation is replaced by dribbler Cristiano Ronaldo who performed way better then lately Antonio Valencia who performed okay. Left wing was taken by Luis Nani but still supported by Ryan Giggs till now. Centre midfielder who was handled by Roy Keane and Paul Scholes has been replaced by Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher whom are still lacking behind.
Strikers best partnership is still between Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole where current strike force includes Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney.
There are plenty of substitute player who are good as well like:-
John O'Shea, Fabio, Smalling, Anderson, Park Ji Sung, Gibson, Javier Hernandez, Michael Owen, Macheda and Danny Welbeck.
For the past few seasons since Man Utd sold off Cristiano Ronaldo and Tevez, they have been struggling with form due to the lack of creativity from the midfield area. This is due to Paul Scholes who is 36 years old not being able to performed the standard he used to. Carrick and Fletcher are both more defensive minded. Their creativity has been taken by Giggs (37 this year), Valencia , and Nani. Any injury to these players will cost Manchester United big drop of form as they have to start relying on Wayne Rooney to play as attacking midfield and Evra and Rafael (wing backs).
I really hope they will sign a attacking midfielder like Xavi and attacking wing back like Dani Alves who will live them up. These two positions are the main problem which led to the downfall of Man Utd recently.
